THE RELUCTANT RECIPIENT

Maureen Reynel, founder and chair of Families In Need (FIND), the Ipswich based charity, was finally persuaded to accept Rotary International’s prestigious Community and Vocational Service Award. A certificate recognising her outstanding work and service to disadvantaged members of the local community was recently presented at the Town Hall by Peter Smith, President of the Rotary Club of Ipswich Orwell.

The charity founded by Maureen thirteen years ago helps people who, often through no fault of their own, are denied a minimum standard of living. Clothing is provided to those without a change of attire, food is supplied to those who are hungry and beds may be found for those forced to sleep on the floor. Social Services and many other organisations often refer desperate people to FIND. Through the charity, Maureen, and her band of helpers befriend without judgement and provide the basic essentials for a reasonable existence.

It is hoped that this Rotary Award for Service will promote a greater awareness of the problems that exist for so many, as well as help Maureen with her work of finding materials, funds and help for those in need. She shuns personal publicity but will do all she can to promote the work of the charity; being true to herself, she only agreed to accept the award on behalf and in the name of FIND!
